Grant-Funded Initiatives for Shared Resources
In late 2024, Diamond Lake was awarded a grant to support our mission of shoreline restoration. Two key areas of focus are Firework Island and the Boat Launch.
Firework Island: Over the past several decades, Firework Island has experienced significant land loss due to erosion. Without intervention, the island will continue to deteriorate, depositing sediment into the lake. This process could lead to the creation of larger sandbars and a gradual shallowing of the lake.
Boat Launch: Though less severe, the boat launch is also showing signs of erosion that need to be addressed.
The Plan for 2025
In partnership with environmental professionals and the State of Michigan, we have developed a comprehensive restoration plan for these areas. The project will use grant funding to implement solutions that protect the shoreline, reduce erosion, and improve the overall health of Diamond Lake.
Below, you’ll find concept art detailing the proposed changes, which are set to be implemented in the first half of 2025.
The DLA, in partnership with EGLE & MI DNR are leading the way to successful implementation of shore softening to preserve our beautiful lake for generations to come. Please join us in our journey and follow our progress on the DLA website and periodic social media updates!
